Pre & Post-Wax Care
Guidelines to ensure the best waxing experience and long-lasting results.
Pre-Wax Care (Before Appointment)
- Exfoliate 24–48 Hours Before: Gently exfoliate to remove dead skin and help prevent ingrown hairs. Avoid harsh scrubs right before waxing.
- Moisturize Leading Up (Not On the Day): Keep your skin hydrated in the days before waxing, but avoid applying oils, lotions, or creams on the day of your appointment.
- Let Hair Grow: Ensure hair is at least ¼ inch long (about the size of a grain of rice) for best results.
- Avoid Sun & Tanning: Stay out of direct sunlight, tanning beds, or anything that makes skin extra sensitive at least 24–48 hours before.
- Skip Retinol & Peels: Stop using retinol, glycolic acid, chemical peels, or other strong exfoliants on the area a few days before waxing.
- Wear Comfortable Clothing: Loose-fitting clothes reduce friction and irritation after your wax.
- Stay Clean: Shower before your appointment to ensure the skin is fresh and bacteria-free.
- Optional Pain Prep: If you’re sensitive, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever 30 minutes before your session.
Post-Wax Care (After Appointment)
- Soothe the Skin: Apply aloe vera gel, a cooling lotion, or recommended post-wax products to calm redness.
- Avoid Heat for 24–48 Hours: No hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or intense exercise that causes sweating.
- No Touching or Scratching: Keep hands away from freshly waxed skin to avoid irritation and bacteria.
- Skip Makeup, Perfume, or Deodorant: These can sting and clog pores on freshly waxed skin.
- Avoid Sun Exposure & Tanning: Skin is extra sensitive, sun may cause burns or hyperpigmentation.
- Exfoliate After 2–3 Days: Start gentle exfoliation a few days post-wax to prevent ingrown hairs (use mild scrubs or exfoliating mitts).
- Moisturize Daily: Keep skin soft and hydrated with a light, fragrance-free lotion.
- Wear Loose Clothing: Especially after intimate or body waxing—this prevents friction and bumps.
- Avoid Swimming: Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and the ocean for at least 24–48 hours to prevent irritation or infection.
- Watch for Reactions: Slight redness or bumps are normal and should calm within 24 hours. If irritation persists, consult your waxing specialist.
